EDTEC MA Degree
Congratulations on your admission to our EDTEC MA degree program. Please review the information listed below to help you in your degree program.
Consult your advisor
You've been assigned an individual faculty advisor (check your unofficial admission letter) who will assist you in taking courses that not only will fulfill your career goals but also university requirements (refer to the graduate bulletin). A program of study is required for all master degree students; it must be filed before enrolling in ED 795A.
Program of Study
You may file a program of study after you've completed 12 units toward the MA degree (excluding 540 and 541). Programs are filed electronically through the EDTEC office. With the help of your advisor, map out your courses (see our course offerings) via email, telephone or in peson (if local) and send your course list to etapi@mail.sdsu.edu and cc: Marcie Bober, (bober@mail.sdsu.edu) and your assigned advisor. Please note: Your program will only be accepted after you've completed the 12 units toward the degree (do not include 540/541). Your program must include EDTEC 544, ED 690, ED 795A, ED 795B and 9 units of graduate level EDTEC courses (600-700).The remaining 3 courses (electives) can be a combination of 500, 600 or 700 level courses.
Changing your Program of Study
Once your program has been approved, you may not submit another program of study. However, you can change it. There are many reasons for changing your program; for example you've decided to take a different class that is more relevant to your career goals or a class listed on your program is not available. You will need to petition to make an adjustment to your program. The form is Petition for Academic Adjustment. Once the form is complete (don't forget to sign it), it must be returned to the department for processing. You may fax to 619-594-6376.
Change of Status and Advancement to Candidacy
If you were admitted on a conditional status, a change of status to classfied graduate standing will automatically be processed for you after all conditions have been met. Being advanced to candidacy is also automatic. It is processed at the same time as your program of study.
Comprehensive Exam
In lieu of a formal comprehensive exam, students are required to present a professional electronic portfolio. Portfolio presentations take place in ED 795B. See our e-portfolio website for more information.
Applying for Graduation
Graduation is not automatic upon completion of degree requirements. You need to formally apply. You may download the application and follow the directions specified. Deadlines apply so make sure you submit in a timely manner in the semester you expect to graduate.
