All EDTEC courses call for you to have access to a Windows or Macintosh computer, preferably one that meets the SDSU minimum computing standard (see http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/~mwssls/nws.html); make sure this is a computer on which you can install trial software. You'll also need:
- a high-speed connection to the Internet, either cable modem or DSL.
- a headset--since you'll take part in online discussions and presentations. [Both Plantronics and Microsoft make great products; consult with an EDTEC faculty member if you're not sure what to buy.]
- a newer (and thus supported) version of Microsoft Office.
- an email account with suffice storage file storage (and file-sending) capacity.
For EDTEC 470: Technologies for Teaching, the following specific requirements apply:
- updated browser* (Internet Explorer or Firefox);
- video editing software (iMovie for Macintosh, Photo Story 3 for Windows);
- a Gmail account from Google;
- Adobe Reader;
- QuickTime (Player for Macintosh, Viewer for Windows); and
- Inspiration and InspireData; see: http://www.inspiration.com/.
Click here for more information on the EDTEC 470 computer/software requirements.
In EDTEC 541: Multimedia Development (and other courses you'll complete later in the program), you'll need:
- web-based multimedia authoring software (currently we're using Adobe DreamWeaver);
- graphics software (currently we're using Adobe Photoshop*);
- animation software (currently we're using Adobe Flash*);
- video compression software (currently we're using QuickTime Pro); and
- streaming video web-browser plug-in
In addition to above listed resources, you'll need occasional access to:
- a color image scanner (available in discount stores and catalogs from $99 up);
- audio digitizing (built into most Windows multimedia and all Macintosh computers); and
- video digitizing (built into many multimedia Macintosh computers, and available as an add-on to other Macintosh and Windows multimedia computers).
*Indicates software a) that is free entirely, b) for which an alternative may be available, or c) that you may download in a 30-day free trial version, which will usually be adequate for accomplishing minimum competencies in the course. [Note that 30-day free trial versions may or may not be adequate if you elect to use them for your final project.]

If you don't wish to purchase these capabilities for your own workstation, you'll need to make other arrangements to access them when you need them.
