What in the (Virtual) World is Going On?

Why are multiuser virtual world platforms catching the eye of IBM, Sun Microsystems, the Air Force and, incredibly, the US Congress? Can they really be used in corporate settings? The classroom? How? What should you look for when evaluating their usefulness in your situation? We will look at the breakout platform, Second Life, and discuss both its affordances and constraints for education and instruction.
